Interesting article from the Washington Post:
The country where Valentine’s Day is the most dangerous day of the year
My thoughts:
1) Valentine's Day in Cambodia is interesting. Because of the associations the holiday has taken on, the very fact of acknowledging that "Valentine's Day" exists is border-line taboo. Students would sometimes get a little bit nervous in class if the word was even brought up.
2) As a foreigner in Cambodia, I always thought Cambodian attitudes about sex were extremely hypocritical--that is, there is a huge difference between what Cambodians say they believe about sexual purity, and what actually goes on in the country. But then, maybe that's true in every country, and we only notice it more in foreign countries? I don't know.
