Phone Call Situations

(TESOL Worksheets--Speaking)
Google (drive, docs, pub)
[I was doing a lesson on phone conversations out of the textbook, and I needed a fun activity for free production.
Having just got done doing the Improv lesson (see previous post), I decided I'd just rip off that idea and adopt it to phone conversations.
So this lesson is basically just a rip off of the previous lesson, but one specifically target for phone call situations.
I used this to supplement Lifestyle Elementary Textbook, but since just about every ESL textbook has some sort of lesson on phone call English, I think this can be plugged into to any of them.
Students were put into pairs.  Each pair selected a card at random, and then they had to act out that situation in front of the class.  The first couple times they carefully prepared their script in advance, then for the last several ones we did it as rapid-fire Improv.  I put all these situations on PowerPoint as well so I could display the relevant situation for the whole class.  The PowerPoint is on Google (drive, slides, pub), and embedded below.]

Improv Role Plays for ESL Students by Diana Funtana

[In an effort to keep track of useful materials--so I can find it again when I need it--I'm collecting links to stuff that I've had good luck with using in class. I'm indexing it, along with my own materials, over here and here.
I used these activities by Diana Funtana in a lesson I did on Improv.  (See previous post.)  The lesson was designed to supplement the readings on Improv in the Lifestyle Intermediate textbook, but these Improve activities could be used in many different classrooms.
I modified Diana Funtana's format slightly, by putting a number of her suggestions onto the form of a card, and having the students pick a card. (At least in the beginning stages of the game.  Once they become more comfortable with the idea, then I encourage them to shout out their own ideas.)
The cards I typed up are on Google (drive, docs, pub), and pasted below.  (Every single one of them comes directly from Diana Funtana's ideas, but the formatting is mine.)  There are two versions, the first one with small type is so that the students can see all the situations on one sheet of (double-sided) paper, so that they can ask questions about any vocabulary or situations they don't understand.  The larger type version is to cut up into individual cards and shuffle.]
