I remember reading Diary of a Wimpy Kid back in the day -- a discovery of Luce, I believe. One of the books was read aloud during a long car-trip and then it was "Game Over." I had to read 'em all.
An uncle took one of the kids to see the movie. "I don't know how to say this, but he's not a 'Wimpy Kid' -- he's an incredible jerk." It's true: we learned to beware of the words, "I think I know what this is about..." The books are funny, but maybe stay away from the movie.
Luce also turned me on to Freaks & Geeks -- you might dig it!

You know what, I was just thinking I would have a go at reading them all. Or at least, all of the ones I can get my hands on. (All of the ones that are available at my library.) They are a bit repetitive, and I think I'm discovering the humor has diminishing returns after the first book. But at the same time, they're very quick and easy to read, and somewhat addictive in the sense that you want to keep turning the pages to find out what crazy thing is going to happen next.
Thanks for the recommendation on Freaks and Geeks. And thanks for the advice to stay away from the movie as well.
