What could be done to make these situations better? (Freer Practice for Passive Modals)

Here are links to for pictures that I found online via Google searches: picture 1, picture 2, picture 3, picture 4.
In my class, I either print out these pictures, and hand them out to students, or display them on the projector (or both).  Students are then instructed to discuss with a partner "What could be done to make these situations better?"
(e.g. when discussing picture 1: the snowman should be moved to a cold place, the shark must be taken out of the pool, etc)
PASSIVE MODALS Kahoot by beremon

This is a Kahoot quiz that I found on passive modals.  I used it in my classroom, and it worked well.

Passive Voice with Modals Dictogloss: Test Rules

(TESOL Worksheets--Passive Voice with Modals)

Google: docs, pub

[Notes: This text follows the procedure for dictoglosses that I've outlined in a previous post.   It's actually based on the actual test rules at my school (and so has relevance for my students.)  If you're using this in a different school, you can adapt it to reflect the rules at your school.]

The test will be held in your regular classroom.

The vocabulary should be studied before the test.

Student IDs need to be taken to the test.  The IDs must be placed on the top right hand corner of your desk.  The IDs will be checked during the test.  National IDs do not have to be taken to the test.

Phones must be turned off and put into your bags.

Water may be drunk during the test, but coffee may not be drunk.

If you feel cold, jackets can be worn during the test.

1. Where is the school holding the test?

2. What should you do with the vocabulary before the test?

3.  What do you need to do with your student ID?

4. Do you have to bring your national ID to the test?

5. What must you do with your phone during the test?

6. Are you allowed to drink water during the test?  What about coffee?

7. What can you do if you feel cold during the exam?

Using Beauty and the Beast to Teach Giving Advice in the Present and Past

(TESOL Worksheets--Giving Advice in the Present and Past)
Worksheet: docs, pub
[Directions: In my classes, my students were all very familiar with this movie already, so I was able to use that familiarity to set-up things very quickly.  I put on video 1, paused it a couple of times near the beginning to elicit the plot points from the students (i.e. the Beast has forbidden Belle to go into the West Wing.  Belle is going into the West Wing, so the Beast is going to be mad, etc.)  Then played the rest of video 1.
Before playing video 2, I gave the students the gist question orally: "Why is Belle upset?  Why is the Beast upset?"
Then after the gist, the students answer the detail questions.  Then a quick vocabulary matching activity.  Then students write in the missing words from the script, and listen to check their answers.  Then a sorting activity for past advice and present advice.  And then some Concept Checking Questions.]

(TESOL Worksheets--Giving Advice, Modals)
Google: drive, slides, pub
[In my classes, I used this to supplement Impact 3 Unit 4 p.70, and many of the prompts are taken directly from that textbook (and thus reflect the theme of that unit, which is the environmental impact of fashion.)  The remaining prompts were taken from English Grammar in Use by Raymond Murphy.  The template was created by Stemarty.]

auxiliary verbs versus modal auxiliary verbs

(TESOL Worksheets--Teacher Training, Modal Verbs)
Google: slides, pub
This is a game to review the differences between auxiliary verbs and modal auxiliary verbs.  I used this for teacher training, but I suppose it could also be student facing.  Participants are put into teams.  They are shown a prompt, and must decide if it describes auxiliary verbs or modal auxiliary verbs.  The answer is displayed on animation, and then examples are shown on the next slide.

Google: Docs, Pub
This is a mingle activity for Modal Verbs.  I used it to supplement Life Elementary Textbook lesson 11B Planning for a Holiday p.132-133.  As such, it reflects the modal verbs emphasized in that lesson: can, cannot, have to, don't have to.  But I think it can also be used independently of the textbook.
