For my classes, I created some matching cards for this activity, just to make it a bit more tactile: docs, pub
In my lesson, I made two copies of the verb cards: one in which I cut the verb cards so that the picture was separated from the word, and one in which the verb and the picture were on the same card.  Then I  used the following sequence:

1) First I gave the groups the cards in which the verbs and the pictures were separated, and they had to match the correct verb with the correct picture.  They did this in groups.

2) Once the students had matched all the verbs with the correct picture, I took away those cards, and gave them new cards with the verbs and the picture both on the same card.  (Just to make the next activity easier.)  Then they had to match the verb card with the object card.

3) Once the verbs had been matched with the objects, I took away these cards, and then the students had to do the worksheet.  (This was much easier after they had already matched the verbs and objects.)
4) Then, I did an extension activity, in which I brought out the noun and adjective cards from a previous activity, (docs, pub), and the students made new sentences using the format: adjective, noun, verb, noun.  We then had Google Gemini make illustrations for these sentences.

Notes: These are materials for verb or noun + preposition collocations.  This was originally created to supplement p.74 exercise 1a of Expert IELTS 6, and the specific words in these materials reflect the words from that textbook exercise (source of, phase of, link to, expert on, designed by, symbol of, version of and available to).  However, I think these materials can also stand independently of the textbook, for any teacher who wants to do a lesson on collocations with verbs and nouns plus prepositions.  So I am posting the materials here.

Staging is as follows:

* Lead-in: Students talk about a time they used a map

* Prediction: Display photo on projector.  Get students to predict what the boy is using the map for

* Specific Information Questions: Give students a copy of the model text (page four) and the specific information questions (page 1)

* Noticing Activity: Match the Words to the Text: Remove the model text from students.  Give students a copy of the model text with the key vocabulary blanked out (page 2).  Students must then reconstruct the text using a running dictation.  

* Clarification of Meaning: Display the model text on the projector with the target vocabulary underlined (page 3).  Check that students understand the meaning use concept checking questions.  Next, match the words to the definitions with quizlet

* Clarify form and pronunciation

Kahoot: Vocabulary p.10 Exercise 1a Collocations

This is a Kahoot I made for Expert IELTS 6--Module 1a p.10 Vocabulary.  It uses both Match to definitions questions and gap-fill sentences questions.

It is specifically designed to practice the 6 collocations contained on the page of the textbook I was using: become aware, clear relationship, physical appearance, share information, social media, and technological development.  But perhaps it could also be used independently of the textbook, for any teacher who wants to do a quick practice on collocations.  So I'm posting it here as well.

Card Matching for Collocation Practice

[Notes: The cards are cut up and shuffled before class.  One set of cards per group of students.  The students are put into groups of 4 or 5.  Each group is given a set of cards and they have to arrange the cards into the correct collocations.  The students are told it's a competition.  The first group to get all the correct collocations is the winner. When a group thinks they have the right answers, the teacher goes over and checks.  The teacher tells them which ones are right, and which ones are wrong, and they try to re-arrange the wrong ones, until they have only the correct answers.  The teacher then announces the winner.
Expansion activities--a "grab the card" game.  The cards are reshuffled and spread out on the table.   The teacher says one half of the collocation, and the student has to grab the matching card.  Or, in small groups, one of the students can be given the list of collocations (page 3 of the worksheet) and they conduct the game in their group.
Further expansion activity: students pick a card, keep it hidden from their group, and must describe the meaning (without saying the words).  The group has to guess what collocation goes with the card they are holding.

When I was selecting the collocations, I did my best to avoid cases where multiple answers would be possible, but a couple slipped past me--"time limit", "bad traffic" and a couple others.  If students matched these collocations, I would simply tell them, "Yes, good job.  This is also right.  But there's another card that these will go with as well."  (It may at some point in the future be worth trying to adjust the collocations to try to avoid the multiple answers.)
I use this activity as an introduction to the concept of collocations.  After the activity is completed, we have a class discussion about collocations.  (What are collocations?  How can you spot collocations?  How do you learn collocations?  What happens if you get the collocation wrong? et cetera)
These particular collocations come from a quizlet I found here.  I made a copy of it and edited it slightly here.  As a further follow up activity, the quizlet can be assigned as homework, or you can play Quizlet live in class.
