Before class, make a copy of the reading, and then cut the paragraphs up. (This could, in theory, be done by simply photocopying the reading page, but I find it words better to copy and paste the reading onto a new document.)
Students are put into groups, and have to arrange the paragraphs in order.
With reading texts that don't have paragraphs (as in the above sample ) the reading is just divided into chunks.
Whenever possible, I like to check the answers by playing the audio track. Students then listen, and follow along to make sure their paragraphs are in the right order.
For textbooks that don't have audio tracks, the teacher can just read the text aloud.
The above sample comes from English World 2: Unit 1 p.24-25 Reading.
