As someone who was suddenly old enough to see any movie I cared to in 1983 it seemed like it was almost impossible to avoid these comedies. Porky's, Police Academy, Zapped!, Weird Science, etc. I never developed much affection for the form. However, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation gets a yearly viewing.

I think so. It carries on in the same vein, but it's all Crass-mass related, which adds a bit of relief in the usual seasonal movie fare.
