Congrats on the shout-outs. Sounds like you've really found your métier -- or one of them, at any rate.

He's being overly generous. I'm discovering there is this whole "Booktube" community on Youtube which has a general ethos of supporting each other and exchanging compliments. It's a nice little positive corner of the Internet. (You might dig it a lot, if I could talk you into it.)
My general strategy with videos has been to throw everything at the wall and see what sticks. (That's been my general strategy with blogging as well I suppose). 90% of the videos I make are pretty awful, but every once and a while I get on to something interesting.

I was gobsmacked to see Steve Donoghue's video -- and channel! The dude is such a writer, I never dreamed he'd cross over, but that is evidently what he's done (he hardly posts anything written these days).

I'm not sure why I balk at crossing over. But there is something about volunteering even more of my self over to open public perusal (and internet use/abuse) that has me hesitating. Another element is my personal YouTube habits -- my consumption is probably 95% guitar related. I could not be bothered with literary or literate chin-wagging, which I think I would have to be were I to participate.

You've got a good thing going though, I'd say.

A couple points:
I still think you've had a fun time doing it, but in the interest of full disclosure I should add that the increased engagement I've been getting on Youtube has lead to some negative comments as well. "You suck" or "You sound like a huge pussy", etc. This being 2019, I'm probably not telling you anything about the Internet you don't already know, but I wanted to add this in for the record so I didn't paint a misleading picture of Booktube as being all positive.

Secondly... Yeah, Steve Donoghue, huh? I started reading him years ago after Phil linked to him off of his blog, and have found him endlessly fascinating. I forget how I stumbled across his booktube channel, but I stumbled upon it about 6 months ago or so.

His Youtube channel is great. Check out his Western Canon Starter Kit: https://youtu.be/WVL3rKcv0HQ
