Draft Evaluation Sheet

[To use with high level English for Academic Purposes classes to give them feedback on their writing.] 

Draft Evaluation Sheet:

Introduction
---Does the introduction start with a general statement related to the topic and gradually become more specific?  Yes/ No

---Is there a thesis statement ?  Yes / No
__Does the thesis statement express an opinion? Yes / No

--Is there a clear essay map which tells the reader how the essay will be organized? Yes/No
            --If yes, does every point in the essay map relate back to the thesis Yes/No/ Not applicable
Body
--Does the main body follow the essay map in the introduction?  Yes/ No/ Not applicable
--Does each paragraph have a paragraph leader which tells the reader what the main idea of the paragraph is?  Yes / No
--Does the main essay effectively answer the discussion assignment?  Yes/ No
--If not, does the writer need to add further information or examples to make a point clearer?
Sources
---Are there at least two sources?  Yes/ No
            If yes, is at least one source from outside the classroom?  Yes/ No
--Are the sources referenced in the appropriate format? Yes/ No
