My Animal: Present Simple for Habits

(TESOL Worksheets--Present Simple, 3rd Person Singular S)

This activity was used with young children to encourage them to use the present simple for habits, and the 3rd person singular "s".  The students first see the slideshow with various funny animals.  (None of the pictures are mine, all of them are taken from a Google Images search).  The students are then encouraged to draw their own strange animal and write about its habits using the present simple with the 3rd person singular s.  (With the exception of the "can/can't).
In my own class, I used this to supplement English World 2 Unit 5 Grammar p.60.

Does he like/ Do they like scrambled sentences

[Present simple, questions, short answers, subject verb agreement, third person s.  This was used with young children who were low level learners.  The purpose of the lesson was to practice remembering the difference between "Does he/she like....?"  and "Do they like....?"  as well as practice short answers.  There are two different worksheets.  The first one is given to practice the question form (google: drive, docs, pub) the second one is given to practice the short answer form (google: drive, docs, pub).  This is a scrambled sentences activity.  The students are given a grid.  The actual word cards are all cut up and shuffled.  The students have to arrange the cards on their grid in pair work, and then glue the correct answers onto the paper.  In class, I supplemented this by writing on the board the verb patterns.  So for the first worksheet, the verb patterns "Does he like....?  Does she like....?  Do they like....?" was written up on the whiteboard for the students to reference as they completed their grid.  For the second grid, on the board was written.  "Does he like...?  Yes, he does.  No, he doesn't.  Does she like....?  Yes, she does.  No, she doesn't.  Do they like....?  Yes, they do.  No, they don't.]
