Persuasion Situations

(TESOL Worksheets--Speaking, Debating)
Google (drive, docs, pub)
[So, I was doing a lesson out of the Lifestyles Intermediate textbook that involved the students role playing trying to persuade each other.  I created a list of situations to supplement the textbook.  (This is of course influenced by the Phone Call Situations I had done in the previous lesson, which was influenced by the Improv cards from the situation before that.)]

Persuasion

The last piece of pizza.  You and your friend are sharing a pizza.  There is only one piece left.  You both want it.  Try to persuade your friend to let you have it.
Persuasion

At the movies.  You and your friend are going to the movies.  One person wants to see an action movie, the other person wants to see a romance movie.  Try to persuade your friend into your choice.

Persuasion

Two friends, one umbrella.  It’s raining.  There’s only one umbrella in the house, but both you and your friend are going out.  Try to persuade your friend to let you have it.
Persuasion

2 family members, one car.  There’s only one car in the house, but two people in the family both want to use it.  Try to persuade your family member to let you have the car instead of them.

Persuasion

Employee and boss.  An employee wants to have a raise, but the boss is trying to save money.  Try to persuade the other person.
Persuasion

Teacher and student.  The teacher wants to give more homework, but the student doesn’t want any more.  Try to persuade.
Persuasion

The first date.  One person calls up another person to ask them out on a date.  The other person is reluctant to go out, so the first person has to persuade them.
Persuasion

Can I go out to play please?  The parent wants the child to do their homework, but the child wants to go out and play.
Persuasion

Extra Garlic?  You and a friend are ordering pizza.  One person really wants to order extra garlic on the pizza, the other does not.  Try to persuade each other.

Persuasion

The borrower and the lender.  One friend wants to borrow money off of the other.  The other friend is reluctant to lend.
Persuasion

The traffic ticket.  The police officer pulls over a speeding motorist, and wants to give them a traffic ticket for speeding.  The motorist tries to persuade the police officer not to give the ticket.

Persuasion

The puppy.  A child really wants to have a pet puppy.  He tries to persuade his parents to let him keep one.
Persuasion

The break-up.  Two lovers.  One person is trying to break-up with the other.  The other person is trying to persuade them not to break-up.

Persuasion

The overtime.  The boss is trying to persuade the employee to work extra hours.  The employee is trying to persuade the boss not to give them any more overtime.
Persuasion

Time to clean the kitchen.  The kitchen is a mess and someone has to clean it, but no one wants to do it.  Two roommates both try to convince the other to clean the kitchen.
