You Don't Own Me by Lesley Gore--Song for Negative Verb Formation

Google: drive, docs, pub
[Use to review negative verb formation.  First hand out sheet where students practice forming negative verbs.  Go over as a class and write the correct negative forms on the board.  Hand out song sheet for "You Don't Own Me" by Lesley Gore.  Students have to listen to the song and write in the correct words in the blank (all examples of negative verbs.)  For lower level students, I usually play the song twice, and the second time I inform them that all the words they'll need are already on the board.]

Look at the sentences, and in each blank write in the negative form of the verb.
Say

you love me.

Tell

me how you feel.

Put

the baby down.

Try

to eat this food.

I
own

a dog.

I
can go

to the movies.

I'm

a teacher.

Tie

your shoe.

Next, listen to the song and write in the missing verbs.
You ___________ me
___________ just one of your many toys
You ___________ me
___________ I ___________with other boys
And ___________ me what to do
___________ me what to say
And please, when I go out with you
___________me on display 'cause
You ___________me
___________to change me in any way
You ___________ me
___________ me down 'cause I'd never stay
I ___________you what to say
I ___________ you what to do
So just let me be myself
That's all I ask of you
I'm young and I love to be young
I'm free and I love to be free
To live my life the way I want
To say and do whatever I please
And ___________me what to do
Oh, ___________me what to say
And please, when I go out with you
___________me on display
I ___________you what to say
Oh, ___________you what to do
So just let me be myself
That's all I ask of you
I'm young and I love to be young
I'm free and I love to be free
To live
