I use this blog for two different projects: my reviews and my materials for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).

I think with Up! some of the Pixar shine started to recede for me. Wait -- no, Ratatouille got there first. I really disliked that movie, still do. Since then it's almost like I'm reflexively suspicious toward new Pixar product. The last Pixar movie to blow my socks off was Coco. I haven't seen Soul yet, but I'm curious about that one too. Anyhow, now I'm just gassing on.
You know, I still haven't seen Ratatouille. Or Coco come to that....
But back to Ratatouille....isn't that the one that made Brad Bird famous?
Yeah, Bird was pretty pleased with himself over it. That's the movie that ends with a critic declaring that critics shouldn't be so hard on artists, who are doing the real work. I'll sign off on "artists do the real work" but "so lay off you critics!" still strikes me as pretty rich. The story to Ratatouille is pretty weak, to my mind.
Bird's done some good work for Pixar, though. The Incredibles is good.
And Coco is FABulous! I really regret not seeing that on the big screen, boy oh boy.
Yes, I really enjoyed the Incredibles myself.
So Coco is definitely worth checking out, huh? I wasn't impressed by the previews, so I don't think I would have ever checked it out without some nudging. But I'll keep it in mind now.
