A Trip to the Jungle--Past Verb Forms

(TESOL Worksheets--Past Forms)
Google: drive, docs, pub
Updated version: docs, pub
[Students read the story, identify the various types of past verbs in the story, and then write their own conclusion.
I wasn't exactly sure what the best way to format this document was, so I gave it a couple different tries, both of which are included here.  In one version, they have to write the verbs in the tables.  In another version, the verbs are listed, and they have to label the verbs.]

A Trip to the Jungle
A few years after I finished school, but before I started a proper job, I decided I wanted to try living in the jungle for a few years.  In my younger years, I had often read about the jungle in story books, but I had never actually been to the jungle.  In fact, I had never left my home town before.  So, it was a big decision.  But, I wanted to give it a try.
I asked my brother to come with me.  At the time, my brother was studying medicine at the University, and he was planning to graduate next year.  He had wanted to be a doctor ever since he was six, and he had been studying medicine for several years now, so he didn't want to stop his studies now.  But when I told him about all the adventures I wanted to have in the jungle, he agreed to come with me.
We said good-bye to our parents , and took an airplane down to the jungle.
The jungle was very dense and difficult to get through.  It was almost impossible to walk through the jungle, but there was a river flowing through, and we bought a boat to take us upstream, and hired two guides to guide us on our journey.
As we were starting our journey, the first thing we noticed was all the mosquitoes.  My brother and I had been bitten several times by the mosquitoes before one of the guides finally sold us some mosquito cream.
At first we saw very few animals, but as we went deeper and deeper into the jungle, we began to see more and more animals.  We saw a tiger which was prowling along the river bank.  The tiger was watching our boat with hungry eyes as we went up the river.
Along the river, there were a lot of crocodiles, who snapped their jaws hungrily after our boat.
I was beginning to get worried.  I turned to my brother and said, "I'm scared.  Let's go back."
"What!" My brother said.  "We spent all our money on this trip.  We came 6,000 miles for this trip!  I quit school for this trip!  We can't stop now.  Besides, there's nothing to be scared of.  We're nice and safe in the boat.  None of the animals can get us here."
While my brother was still talking, the boat hit a rock in the river.  The rock tore a hole in the boat.  Suddenly, the boat began to sink quickly.
"Help!  Help!" I yelled.  But there was no one to help us.  It was just me, my brother, two guides, and a lot of animals.
After the boat had sunk completely under the water, we had no choice but to swim for our lives.  The crocodiles swam after us.  "The river is dangerous!" I called to my brother.  "Swim for the shore."
But then, we saw all the tigers were gathering along the shore.  "No, the shore is dangerous," my brother yelled.  "Stay in the river!"
