"Readable" -- man, that is no small thing, especially for people who earn graduate degrees in English. Maybe that's changed, but in the late 80s, early 90s the emphasis on PoMo theory was so strong that every kid who took the next step from a BA started aping the more hysterical of the theorists. Lawyers write more clearly (and entertainingly).
Oh yeah, is that ever the truth. When I did my degree in linguistics, I had such a hard time reading through the Academic articles. I got the sense that the authors were trying to punish me for trying to read their articles.
