Johan and Peewit is a Belgium comic book series created by Peyo. (Originally it was just Johan, and the character of Peewit was added later.) The series is set in Medieval Europe and includes elements of sword-and-sorcery. (Wikipedia article HERE).
The Smurfs got their first appearance in this series. At first, they were just supporting characters. Eventually The Smurfs became so popular that they got their own comic book series.
And then eventually (as we all know) The Smurfs became a 1980s cartoon show.
Johan and Peewit featured in seasons 2 and 3 of The Smurfs cartoon show. In several of the season 2 and 3 episodes, Johan and Peewit were the main characters, and the Smurfs were the supporting characters.
In the U.S.A, these shows were included as part of The Smurfs cartoon show, but in Europe, these 18 episodes were marketed separately as their own show--The Johan and Peewit show (LINK HERE).
