From the AVclub:
R.I.P. Peter Fonda
Peter Fonda is one of those actors who did a lot of stuff, but is only really remembered for one iconic movie.
At one point in 2002, I had Easy Rider on my list of top 10 films of all time. Although when I rethought that list in 2017, I decided I had outgrown Easy Rider. But still, it's a classic movie no matter how you look at it.
I never warmed to Easy Rider, which is weird because I've been sickly nostalgic for the 60s for as long as I can remember (that's only faded recently, as middle age seems to kick the shit out of the nostalgic impulse in general). Fonda experienced a triumphant resurgence in the 90s which I enjoyed (as did he, I'm sure). Escape From LA, Ulee's Gold and of course The Limey, which remains in my top ten list.
ReplyDeleteI remember the press about the Fonda's comeback in Ulee's Gold (although I never watched the movie)
ReplyDelete... I had no idea he had been in Escape from L.A. or The Limey. Interesting.
I don't believe I've seen any of those 3 movies actually.
Also random fact: Fonda also inspired the lyrics to Beatles Song "She Said"

Kewl.
ReplyDeleteEscape was pretty bad, as I recall, but I recommend the other two without hesitation. As I do his memoirs, which also came out in the 90s (he's abit of a flake, but kinda knows it). Quite the decade for him, as it was for daughter Bridget. Sad news indeed.
