There is a significant amount of dancing around in an effort to keep everybody happy. But personally I doubt it's possible to keep everyone happy on this subject.
After all, a myth is what everyone else believes. The historical truth is what I believe.
You can try to tell people to put away their beliefs and view all of these creation stories as "stories", but it's a hard sell. If you believe that one of these stories is the historical truth, and the rest are just man-made inventions, you're not going to be comfortable comparing them all on equal footing.
Seems like a good time to throw this quote into the mix. Frye's my guy.

Not wrong at all. I read The Great Code 25 years ago and it didn't just spare me a pile of existential grief, it's kept me engaged.
