The students are divided into two teams. A message in textspeak is displayed on the screen. The students race to the board to write the equivalent in Standard English. First team to write the correct sentence wins.
PS--This was for a classroom of L1 Vietnamese speakers, hence the comment about not speaking Vietnamese.
PSS--The prohibition against speaking the L1 in class is the school's rule, not mine. If left to my own devices, I actually believe that learners should have the freedom to choose whether to use the L1 or the L2.
PSS--This board race was thrown together at the last minute, and probably some of these sentences are not all that good. I used this website (LINK HERE) to create the textspeak sentences, and more suitable sentences could be created using that site. (If you think of any ones that would be better for Elementary students, let me know and I'll edit the Google Slides).
