King Henry VIII built Nonsuch Palace.  He started work on Nonsuch Palace in 1538 and finished it several years later.  He named it Nonsuch Palace because there were no other palaces in the world like it. He designed Nonsuch Palace to be a celebration of the power and the grandeur of the Tudor dynasty.

First, the workman cleaned the building site.  Then, the workman constructed Nonsuch Palace.   The workman made  Nonsuch Palace out of stones.  To save money,  Henry VIII recycled stones from churches.  (During his reign, King Henry VIII took apart Catholic Churches and established the Church of England instead.) The workman carried stones for Nonsuch Palace from Ditton.  They also used 259,000 tiles in making Nonsuch Palace. They shaped the Palace like a square figure.

King Henry VIII died in 1547, and the country passed down Nonsuch Palace to later Kings.  In 1670, King Charles II gave Nonsuch Palace to his mistress Barbara, Countess of Castlemaine. Barbara tore down  Nonsuch Palace and sold the materials to pay her gambling debts.   Thus, sadly, Barbara destroyed Nonsuch Palace.
