Villagers pray to coconut tree
Over the past week, hundreds of villagers in Banteay Meanchey’s Thmor Pouk district have made the trek to a tiny yard in Banteay Chhmar commune to worship a coconut tree they believe possesses a magic healing spirit....“There are a lot of people from near my village and some from other provinces who have now come to ask the coconut tree to cure their diseases,” Yuk said, adding that monks had performed a blessing ceremony on the site and villagers were making sacrificial offerings to him and the tree.
This article is a year old now. I really should have linked to it a year ago, but better late than never. Here are some other interesting stories about Cambodian religious traditions I should have linked to a long time ago:Cambodian villagers pray to "sacred" tree trunk that righted itself

Anchor's "healing powers" draw Cambodian pilgrims
Phnom Penh - A 19th century ship's anchor has become a draw for Cambodian pilgrims who believe it has healing powers, local media reported Tuesday.
The 2.5-metre-long anchor, inscribed with the date 1883, was bought from a local fisherman by 43-year-old Chan Vanna last week, the Cambodia Daily reported. She claims the object is magical and that a mysterious pain in her arm disappeared after she prayed to it.
