From the Washington Post:
Standing with Rand, nervously
As this article does a good job of pointing out, Rand Paul has some reasonable ideas and he has some nut-job ideas, but his policy on immigration strikes me as very reasonable, and something I wish the rest of the Republican party would see light on.
“I’ve never met a new immigrant looking for a free lunch,” he told
the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday, calling on his party
to embrace higher levels of immigration. Paul proposed “acknowledging we
aren’t going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants. If you wish to
work, if you wish to live and work in America, then we will find a place
for you.”
The sooner the rest of the Republican party gets around to acknowledging that we aren't just going to deport 12 million people, the sooner we can start to make some progress on this issue.
