From 48 Hours in Sapporo | 6 Things to do in Hokkaido's Capital

I spent a month in Sapporo during the summer of 2003.  And absolutely loved it.
The weather was beautiful.  It was warm, but not hot.  (It was a great escape from the sweltering summers in Kyushu, where I was living at the time.  I'm told Sapporo can get a bit rough in the winters, but I wouldn't know.  All I know is that it was lovely in the summer).

Sapporo was a big city, but unlike a lot of big cities in Japan, it was really open, with a lot of room to breathe.  And outdoor beer gardens, which were so nice on summer evenings.
